About My Practice
I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist.  In my independent practice, I provide individual, couples, and sex therapy, with a specialization in hypnotherapy, as well as consultation to other professionals.  I have recently moved to Orcas Island, in Washington State.

Meetings and Scheduling
My clients usually schedule a series of weekly sessions, with each session lasting 45 minutes.  Sometimes people who are dealing with a particularly difficult challenge may request more time per session or more than one session per week.  Occasionally, sometimes for financial reasons, sessions are scheduled less frequently.

Therapy can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or longer-term, addressing more complex issues or ongoing personal growth.  For therapy to be most effective, you must be an active participant, both during and between sessions.  There may be times when I suggest that clients take certain actions outside of therapy sessions, such as reading a relevant book or keeping records to track certain behaviors.  Between sessions, it is important to process what has been discussed and integrate it into your life.

My Professional Fees
Fees are to be paid at each session.  You are welcome to pay in advance for a number of sessions, if you prefer, but unless we have made specific arrangements ahead of time, it is not acceptable to miss payments.  My fee is $130 per 45 minute session.  It is my practice to charge this fee on a  prorated basis for any other professional services you may require outside of our sessions, such as report or letter writing, telephone conversations that last more than 5 minutes, or preparation of records or treatment summaries.

Payment
Cash, checks, money orders, and all major credit cards (via PayPal on the internet with an additional fee) are accepted for payment.

Cancellation Policy
If you miss a scheduled appointment or cancel/reschedule without at least 24 hours advance notice, by phone, you will be required to pay the full cost of the missed session.  For more detailed information, see the Psychotherapist-Client Services Agreement available for download from the INTAKE FORMS page.

Insurance
My clients pay me directly for each session.  I am happy to provide statements that clients can submit to an insurance company or retain for tax purposes.  However, you, not your insurance carrier, are responsible for full payment of the fee we have agreed to.  I choose not to be on any insurance panels.  Therefore, I would be considered an "out-of-network" provider.  To determine whether your insurance will cover any portion of my fee, you can check with your insurance carrier.  You may want to check your coverage carefully and find the answers to the following questions:
  • Do I have mental health benefits?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • How many therapy sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
  • How much does my plan cover for an "out-of-network" provider?
  • What coverage amount is allowed per psychotherapy session?
  • Is a referral required from my primary care physician?
